Mt. Pulag, the Philippines’ third-highest mountain peak and a vital biodiversity, is facing a major environmental crisis, raising alarms among environmentalists and local communities.

As the majestic mountain of Mt. Pulag has been grappling with increasing neglect and mismanagement. It is facing a huge crisis that sparks outrage among environmental advocates and hikers alike. The situation has become dire, with visible signs of environmental degradation that call for immediate attention.

Australian travel content creator Austin Baker shared his Mount Pulag hiking experience, showing how the place has deteriorated as some hikers and campers continue to neglect the place. Trash litters the mountain’s trails, abandoned motorbikes are scattered throughout the place, and popular campsites, once packed with campers, have been shut down.

Moreover, concerns arise as all this is happening while hikers and campers pay environmental fees. Netizens call out for the lack of transparency on this issue, as the environmental fees are supposed to help maintain the trails, clean up the waste, and protect the delicate ecosystem of Mt. Pulag, yet as hikers explore the mountain, they are met with an overall sense of neglect.

The beautiful environment that made Mt. Pulag a sought-after destination is quickly fading away, and the lack of action from the authorities is making matters worse.

Many call out the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Kabayan Local Government Unit (LGU) for failing to address the growing concerns, making the people sound the alarm and take action.

A Call To Action And The Time To Speak Up

Furthermore, people call out environmental activists, advocates, and organizations to seek help to stand and to speak up and make the people in charge accountable.

It’s time to speak up and demand action. The situation at Mt. Pulag is no longer just an inconvenience for tourists; it is a full-blown environmental emergency that requires immediate attention.

As stated by Austin Baker, there are several key actions that need to be addressed for the crisis.

  • Immediate cleanup operations to bring back the cleanliness of the place.
  • Transparency and Accountability of People in Charge.
  • Stronger Regulations and Enforcement: Stricter regulations should be enforced to prevent future environmental damage and to ensure that any mismanagement is addressed swiftly.

If people want to continue enjoying the mountain’s wonders, urgent action must be taken. The time for silence has passed. It’s time for the people in charge to step up and take accountability. Now is the time for environmentalists, advocates, organizations, and the public to unite in demanding change.

And restore Mt. Pulag to its rightful place as an immaculate and protected natural landmark.

It’s not only a simple concern; it’s a matter of environmental protection and sustainability.

“Mt. Pulag needs protection, not neglect,” Austin Baker stated.

Mt. Pulag is the highest peak in Luzon and is the third-highest mountain in the Philippines, with an elevation of 2,922 meters above sea level. Mt. Pulag is located within the Philippine Cordillera Mountain Range and is considered a national treasure known for its breathtaking “sea of clouds” and vibrant biodiversity.
