The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has released PHP45.88 million worth of humanitarian assistance to communities affected by the enhanced southwest monsoon and Typhoon Inday, an agency official said Monday.

As of 6 a.m., the DSWD has distributed 54,902 family food packs; 1,732 non-food items; and 6,094 ready-to-eat food packs to affected communities, according to the Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center (DROMIC).

“Patuloy pa rin po ang DSWD sa pag-alalay sa iba’t-ibang mga LGU para matugunan ang pangangailangan ng ating mga kababayan (The DSWD continues to give assistance to different local government units to address the needs of our countrymen),” DSWD Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao said in an interview on IBC 13.

Dumlao said 134 evacuation centers were sheltering 4,338 families, or 17,794 individuals as of posting time.

The DSWD said its field offices have deployed mobile command centers and mobile kitchens to support relief operations and continue to coordinate with local government units in assisting affected families.

The latest DROMIC report showed that more than 150,000 families, or about 669,000 individuals, have been affected by the weather disturbances. (PNA)
