Located in the center of Baguio, there is a special place where history and nature mix perfectly. John Hay became a Japanese Army post in April 1942. It was transformed into an armory from which the Japanese supplied their forces fighting in the mountains. They constructed numerous cement tunnels and trenches. Originally located in the Baguio General Hospital, the headquarters was regularly relocated to John Hay to evade Allied aircraft strafing and bombing.

The name Camp John Hay was changed to John Hay Air Base on November 17, 1957. This lovely retreat, located high in Northern Luzon, has expanded throughout the years. Beautiful hotel, conference, club, and recreational facilities are now available to accommodate the hundreds of US forces who visit this “Mountain Paradise” every year.

Baguio City and Camp John Hay, both founded in the early twentieth century, have grown together. The close relationship between the base’s staff and the local community has become a valued tradition. The Filipino government regained control of Camp John Hay on January 9, 1979.
