The Philippine National Police’s (PNP) capability to address security threats got a boost with the acquisition of PHP1.48 billion worth of firearms and mobility assets.
PNP chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr. led the blessing of the new equipment and vehicles at the police force’s headquarters in Camp Crame on Monday, the PNP Public Information Office said in a news release Wednesday.
“These acquisitions are not mere tools. They are the instruments that empower us to effectively fulfill our duty to protect and serve the Filipino people. They represent our commitment to strengthening our capacity to maintain peace and security in our communities,” Acorda said in a statement.
This consists of 44 marked light transport vehicles, 120 4×4 personnel carriers, 203 4×2 patrol jeep single cabs, 5,755 units of 5.56-mm basic assault rifles, 5.8 million rounds of 5.56-mm ball ammunition, 949 enhanced combat helmets and more than 3,000 enhanced combat and all-purpose vests.
Acorda said these assets were acquired through funds from the PNP’s Capability Enhancement Programs (CEPs) for 2022 and 2023.
He also thanked the national government for their continued support in the modernization efforts of the police force.
Acorda, meanwhile, reminded PNP personnel to use these resources judiciously and uphold the highest standards of professionalism. (PNA)
