Government agencies and local government units in Northern Mindanao kicked off the National Women’s Month celebration on Monday, highlighting initiatives to promote inclusivity and gender equality.
At the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology-Northern Mindanao (BJMP-10) headquarters, Jail Officer-1 Kimberly Faith Lomarda shared a message on the resilience of women during the flag-raising ceremony.
“Let this flag be a symbol of the women who faced heartbreak but still found a way to hope again,” Lomarda said.
Vanessa Molina, a warden at the BJMP’s Cagayan de Oro Female Dormitory, emphasized the vital role of women in all sectors, aligning with this year’s theme “Babae sa Lahat ng Sektor, Aangat ang Bukas sa Bagong Pilipinas.”
In a separate event, Misamis Oriental Tourism co-chair Erlinda Unabia highlighted women’s contributions to community and provincial progress.
“Almost all sectors in our society, women are working,” she said.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-10, alongside the Men Opposed to Violence Against Women Everywhere and other agencies, launched the celebration with a motorcade at the 4th Infantry Division (4ID) headquarters.
DSWD-10 Director Ramel Jamen stressed the importance of advancing policies and programs that empower women and promote gender equality.
“Women in the Philippines continue to play a vital role in leadership, governance, education, healthcare, and social progress. However, challenges remain,” he said.
Col. Rey Pasco, 4ID assistant commander for reservist and retiree affairs, reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to supporting women’s rights and opportunities.
“Let us support women-owned businesses, mentor young women and advocate for policies that promote gender equality,” he said. (PNA)
