Local chief executives in Negros Occidental paid tribute to teachers as Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson suspended classes in public schools on Monday to mark the National Teachers’ Day and World Teachers’ Day.

In his directive, Lacson said the provincial government “acknowledges the selfless service, perseverance, and dedication of public school teachers, school administrators, and personnel.”

“They continuously contribute to the education, character formation, and overall development of the province’s youth,” he said.

Lacson said giving teachers, learners, and school personnel with adequate time to participate in the observance of National Teachers’ Day and World Teachers’ Day is “a meaningful expression of the province’s appreciation for their contributions to the educational sector”.

In Talisay City, Mayor Rowena Lizares said the city government joins the global community in celebrating World Teachers’ Day.

“This is a great opportunity for students, parents, and communities to show appreciation for Filipino teachers’ commitment and hard work,” she said.

San Carlos City Mayor Renato Gustilo said the city government recognizes the invaluable contributions, dedication, and service of teachers and school personnel to the education and development of learners.

Gustilo ordered the suspension of classes at all levels in both public and private schools on Monday.

In La Carlota City, Mayor Jose Luis Jalandoni said that on the World Teachers’ Day, it is the teachers’ turn to receive the city’s gratitude, recognition, and support.

“You do more than teach lessons. You shape character, nurture values, and build the foundation of our city’s future,” he said in a statement.

Kabankalan City Mayor Benjie Miranda said the city government “affirms its appreciation for teachers whose daily work strengthens our communities, develops the abilities of our learners, and prepares the next generation of Kabankalanons for responsible citizenship”.

He said the suspension of classes in public schools will “allow the school community to participate in activities honoring our teachers”. (PNA)
