The Marcos administration is proposing higher funding for the Philippine National Police (PNP) under the 2027 National Expenditure Program (NEP) to finance the salary increase of police personnel and strengthen their operational capabilities.
In a statement Wednesday, the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) said the PNP is proposed to receive PHP242.53 billion, or PHP15.98 billion higher than its PHP226.55-billion allocation under the 2026 budget.
The DBM said the higher funding is expected to support the administration’s efforts to ensure that police personnel are adequately compensated and equipped to carry out their duties.
Of the proposed 2027 budget, around PHP210.55 billion is allocated for Personnel Services, including PHP100.549 billion for the second tranche of the salary adjustment for PNP personnel pursuant to Executive Order No. 107.
Another PHP28.670 billion is earmarked for the PHP350 daily subsistence allowance of some 224,421 police personnel, providing additional support as they serve communities.
The DBM said the proposed budget also aims to help the PNP augment its manpower as the government works to improve police visibility and public safety nationwide.
The government is proposing a total of PHP697.18 million for the hiring of 2,000 additional patrolmen and patrolwomen nationwide, while PHP2.186 billion will support the filling of currently unfilled uniformed positions.
The DBM said PHP225.754 billion is earmarked for the Crime Prevention and Suppression Program, supporting the PNP’s frontline operations to prevent and suppress crime and maintain peace and order nationwide.
Under the 2027 NEP, the PHP2-billion budget for the PNP Capability Enhancement Program was retained to support the procurement of mobility, communications, firepower, anti-terrorism, and other mission-critical equipment.
To further strengthen the PNP’s operational readiness, PHP3.12 billion is proposed for information and communications technology (ICT), while another PHP1.499 billion is earmarked for infrastructure projects.
The DBM said the proposed 2027 budget also recognizes that stronger policing also means taking care of the police personnel tasked to protect communities and their families.
A total of PHP1.74 billion is proposed for rice subsidy, while PHP280.67 million is allocated for the hospitalization and healthcare needs of PNP personnel and their dependents.
Another PHP125.11 million would be allotted for the Bantay Kaisipan Health Program, reinforcing support for the physical and mental well-being of police personnel.
The DBM said the proposed investments strengthen the PNP on multiple fronts: better compensation, additional manpower, stronger operational capabilities, modern technology and infrastructure, and greater support for the welfare of police personnel and their families. (PNA)
