The Police Regional Office in Bicol (PRO5) will enforce maximum deployment of its uniformed personnel to ensure the safety and security of the public, especially the visitors during the upcoming Holy Week and summer vacation.
In an interview on Wednesday, PRO5 spokesperson Lt. Col. Malu Calubaquib said this is part of the PRO5 Oplan Ligtas Sumvac (Summer Vacation) 2024.
“The preparation is to ensure that we will celebrate the Holy Week with solemnity and as the start of summer vacation, returning Bicolanos, local and foreign tourists can enjoy their stay. Starting next week, we will be deploying police personnel from different units in the region. The PRO5 remains in full alert status. We will also intensify checkpoint operations at entrance and exit points to ensure the safety of commuters,” Calubaquib said.
The operatives with bicycles and motorcycles will patrol different areas and promptly address untoward incidents, she said.
Liikewise, regular inspections will be conducted in crowded areas like bus terminals, seaports, airports and other transportation hubs.
Assistance Hubs (AHs) and Police Assistance Desks (PADs) will be put up to promptly address complaints and provide assistance to the public and visible police presence in different areas.
Calubaquib said that aside from the police personnel, force multipliers and volunteers from different civic organizations are expected to join the deployment.
Meanwhile, Calubaquib said PRO5’s Oplan Sita will continue to be implemented to reduce street crimes and address its campaign against illegal drugs, gambling and other criminal activities.
In a statement, PRO5 Regional Director Brig. Gen. Andre Dizon said, “We urge the public’s cooperation in adhering to government regulations and guidelines to prevent crimes. Safety remains our utmost priority, and through collaborative efforts, we can ensure a safe and meaningful summer vacation for everyone. Let us all work together towards a secure and enjoyable summer season.” (PNA)
