This city is expected to get up to 3 million liters of water per day (MLD) for areas with limited water supply with the operationalization of PrimeWater’s Matab-ang River Surface Water Supply and Filtration Project in the coming days.

In a press conference on Monday, Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said the injection of water supply from the Matab-ang River in Talisay City is set from April 24 to 27.

“Initially, they are targeting 3 MLD, but eventually it will reach 10 MLD,” he said.

The additional water supply will mainly benefit affected areas in Barangay Villamonte, Barangay Estefania, and Barangays 27, 28, and 30.

Last week, Benitez created a task force to expedite efforts for the energization of the Matab-ang River water supply project.

He also met with officials of Bacolod City Water District (Baciwa) and PrimeWater at his office to discuss immediate and long-term solutions to the city’s water supply challenges.

In another meeting, Benitez listened to updates from Baciwa-Primewater on the current water situation, and from the village chiefs on the water supply experiences in their respective barangays.

The mayor said that while waiting for additional water supply, Baciwa-Primewater, together with the CDRRMO, will deploy water tanks to areas severely affected by water disruptions.

As of the second week of April, Baciwa-PrimeWater water production is only at 78.78 MLD, from 83.30 MLD in March, due to low surface water supply delivery from Bacolod Bulk Water Inc. as a result of the extreme heat. (PNA)
