At least 15 Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils (BDRRMCs) in Camalig town, Albay province on Monday received recognition and cash prizes for their commendable performance in implementing and innovating disaster management systems at the grassroots level.
In an interview on Tuesday, Tim Florece, Camalig information office chief, said the awarding was part of the Municipal DRRMC’s yearly recognition of barangays that showed exemplary performance in disaster preparedness and emergency response.
“Upon assessment of the municipal DRRMC, these barangays have programs and disaster-related activities like training, and skills development that line up with the BDRRM plan. This is also part of the culmination activity of the National Disaster Resilience Month last July,” Florece said.
He said out of 50 BDRRMCs, those of Bariw, Cabraran Pequeño, Caguiba, Cotmon, Gapo, Ilawod, Iluluan, Mina, Miti, Palanog, Quinuartilan, Sua, Sumlang, Tumpa and Barangay 7 received a PHP10,000 cash prize and a certificate of recognition.
Camalig DRRMC chairperson, Mayor Carlos Irwin G. Baldo Jr., urged the BDRRMCs to formulate a comprehensive response towards building a disaster-resilient community, which constitutes the primary goal of the municipal government in attaining zero-casualty during natural and man-made disasters.
“24/7 monitoring and management dapat ang piga-taw ninyo sa barangay lalo na kapag may disaster (must be given to the barangays especially when there is a disaster),” he said.
Baldo said the recognition given to the barangays is also part of the incentives for their hard work and dedication to serving the people. (PNA)
