The Social Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC) on Tuesday marked a major milestone with the topping-off of the Port Town Project in Tondo, Manila, signaling the near completion of housing units for more than 2,100 families.

The project in Barangay 20, Pier 2, North Harbor, is among the SHFC’s vertical housing initiatives under President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s Expanded Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino (4PH) Program.

Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling and SHFC President and CEO Federico Laxa led the ceremony, which celebrates the completion of the structural framework of the five 16-story buildings.

Laxa noted that the milestone brings the government one step closer to delivering safe, secure, and dignified housing units to residents who have long awaited permanent shelter in the capital’s harbor area.

Following the ceremony, officials from the DHSUD, SHFC, and Pag-IBIG Fund toured the construction site and a model unit to inspect the quality and progress of the development.

Pag-IBIG Fund President and CEO Marilene Acosta and Kaerland Development Corporation President Juan Paolo Canlas also joined the inspection, highlighting the collaborative effort between the government and the private sector to address the country’s housing backlog.

The SHFC reaffirmed its commitment to advancing inclusive and sustainable housing through innovative financing and vertical developments designed to maximize urban spaces for marginalized sectors. (PNA)
