Two coconut farmers’ associations in Antique are recipients of egg incubators from the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) to boost their poultry projects.
The incubators will be delivered within the week to recipients Milagrosa Small Farmers Associations of the Municipality of Anini-y and the Maray Small Farmers’ Organization in the Municipality of Bugasong, said PCA Division Chief I for Aklan and Antique Gregory Teñoso III, in an interview on Tuesday.
The two sets of incubators, worth PHP100,000 each, are grants through the PCA and the Bureau of Animal Industry-Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan (BAI-CFIDP) through its chair, Felipe Reolalas Jr.
Teñoso said the PCA and the BAI-CFIDP encouraged coconut farmers to engage in intercropping or have other sources of livelihood while waiting for their coconut trees to bear fruits.
“While the farmers who are members of the recipient associations are still waiting for their newly planted coconut plants to bear fruits for the next three to five years, they could already have income from their poultry project,” he said. (PNA)
