UnĂ³s is a one-act play that explores the multiple meanings, significance, and impact of storms in both personal and collective consciousness.
It will be staged on two days, Thursday and Friday, October 26 to 27, 2023.
The drama spotlights a singular performance adaptation based on notable disaster survival experiences. It weaves the stories from individual accounts, reported narratives, news clippings, and excerpts from literary works.
It likewise focuses on the weather disturbance’s remarkable effects on the individual’s mental, physical, emotional, physiological, and spiritual well-being.
Through the actors’ interpretation and re-enactment, the production aims to highlight how natural turbulences serve as powerful symbols that reflect the complexity of the human condition, such as desires and struggles.
The 45-minute production was written and will be performed by De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) Theater Arts Program alumni Janji Gamboa, Kate Loreno, Alyssa Torres, and graduating students Michael Hilao and Jiana Velasco.
It was co-directed by industry practitioner, production designer, and Benilde Theater Arts Program Chairperson Tuxqs Rutaquio and performance-maker and contemporary staging company Langgam Dance Troupe Director Jenny Logico-Cruz. Both are educators under the college’s School of Arts, Culture, and Performance.
UnĂ³s will be on view on Thursday and Friday, October 26 to 27, 2023 with shows at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. at the 5F Theater of the Benilde Design + Arts Campus, 950 Pablo Ocampo Street, Malate, Manila.
